Boxing event revenue in the third quarter of 2001 increased approximately 582 percent ($27.5m/B31m) from the third quarter in 2001 (over $4m/B4.5m).
Trinidad vs. Hopkins (Sept. 29/HBO PPV) was the top performing pay-per-view event in the third quarter of 2001 and accounted for the lion's share of the boxing event earnings with approximately $20.5m (B23m).
However, event revenue in all other categories slid over 16 percent from $67.1m (B75m) in 3Q'00 to $56.3m (B63m) in 3Q'01.
Wrestling event revenue plunged nearly 16 percent to $53m (B59m) in the quarter from earnings of approximately $63m (B70m) during the same period in 2000.
The drop in revenue is primarily due to the absence of World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling pay-per-view events.
Nevertheless, wrestling events accounted for approximately 63 percent of the total revenue for the event category in the third quarter. World Wrestling Federation had the second, third and fourth best performing events in all categories with Unforgiven (September 23), Summerslam (August 19) and Invasion (July 22).
The figures were disclosed in the quarterly pay-per-view industry event summary released by SET pay-per-view.
