Spanish basketball draws record crowds

Tagged in , &

Spanish basketball is drawing record crowds, with average attendance of 5,444 after the first four matches of the current season.

The figures are explained in part by the arrival of Granada and Caprabo Lleida in the top flight, each attracting more than 5,000 spectators per game.

The re-housed Adecco Estudiantes, whose Pabellon de los Deportes burnt down, is top of the spectator rankings.

Last Friday, despite having lost their previous home game, 14,000 spectators turned up, the fourth highest attendance ever.

The all-time record dates back to 1992 when 14,912 watched Barcelona play Joventut.
