The Score, which is owned by the Headline Media Group, holds the Canadian TV rights to Major League Baseball (pictured) in a four-year deal as well as running coverage of World Wrestling Federation (WWF) events and the Toronto Raptors basketball games.
The Score had previously been a highlights and results service until last year when its owners managed to win regulatory approval to show live coverage. However, having afforded significant costs to obtaining these live rights, it is believed that Headline is now struggling to recoup its investment which has led to the channel being put up for sale.
Buying out The Score would be a major boost to CTV which had been forced to sell its own sports channel, Sportsnet, following its recent acquisition of TSN, Canada's most lucrative sports network.
