ACB expects sponsor replacement

The Australian Cricket Board expects to have a naming-rights sponsor to replace airline Ansett before the first Test against New Zealand on November 8.

The demise of Ansett could have cost the ACB A$5million (US$2.5m/B2.75m) a season. But ACB chief executive James Sutherland (pictured) said the board had received strong commercial interest.

"The response has been quite positive," he said.

"We're now working through the issues of trying to refine the opportunities that we have in front of us and trying to come to the best arrangement."

Among those believed to be showing interest is Coca-Cola. Travel arrangements have been made with Qantas.

The ACB launched its Pura Cup season Wednesday with a scheme designed to ensure better relations between players and umpires.

State players have committed to avoid questioning umpiring decisions in what has been touted as "purer" cricket.
