TEAM to bid 'aggressively' for UEFA rights

TEAM Marketing managing director Richard Worth has told sportbusiness.com his company will bid ‘aggressively’ to retain agency rights to market UEFA’s Champions League tournament.

With TEAM’s existing deal with UEFA due to end in June 2003, UEFA recently announced it was inviting tenders to assist in its marketing of European soccer’s showcase club competition.

Said Worth from TEAM’s Swiss headquarters: “We will be bidding along with everyone else, and bidding aggressively.

“We will see our successful past and present relationship with UEFA as a help to our bid, but we will certainly not base our case on what we have achieved in the past. Instead we will focus on what we can do for them in the future.”

There have been some doubts concerning the future of TEAM if it were to lose the prestigious contract it has held since 1992.

Added Worth: “We are giving very little thought to our bid not been successful and what that might mean to us. We are totally focused on us winning the contract again.”

However, it is expected to face stiff opposition from the newly merged powerhouse of marketing giants Canal+, RTL, Vivendi and the Darmon Group.

The existing deal with TEAM concludes on June 30, 2003. The new deal will cover the Champions League for the seasons 2003/4, 2004/5 and 2005/6.

The deadline for the submission for tenders is November 2.
