Jordan 'no NBA bargaining chip'

The NBA should not use Michael Jordan's comeback as a major bargaining chip for a lucrative new television deal, American Broadcaster Turner Sports has warned.

With the NBA's current television contract with NBC and Turner set to expire in June, many believe League commissioner David Stern will use Jordan to boost TV rights fee negotiations, which opened last weekend.

While NBC and Turner, bidding together for the new deal, agree Jordan's return will fuel further fan interest, help generate higher ratings and attract more advertising, Turner says Jordan will only be playing for one season of the new four-year contract.

NBC and Turner have until October 15 to engineer a renewal of their contracts, after which the NBA will seek bids from other networks.
