Nine’s five-year agreement with the AFL will see it broadcast three games a week across Friday and Sunday with the former taking the network’s headline match.
Nine Network’s managing director Graeme Yarwood stated that the switch to Friday as the high profile timeslot for the AFL would be strengthened by a combination of state-of-the-art graphics and more in-depth match and player statistics.
The station is also examining potential broadcast sponsorships for the games with the upgraded Friday coverage hopefully inducing a 15 percent ratings jump and a rise in advertising revenue.
Nine’s AFL coverage will be almost double that previously provided by Seven which had held the TV rights for the last 44 years prior to this year’s switch.
Australian broadcaster the Nine Network has unveiled the planned schedule for its newly acquired coverage of the Australian Football League (AFL) after winning the rights from main rival the Seven Network earlier this year.
