Events set for disruption after US attacks

The terrible events in the US yesterday caused havoc with sporting events across the globe with all Major League Baseball games last night called off, this week's UEFA European soccer ties postponed, and a question mark hanging over this weekend’s NFL ties and golf’s Ryder Cup later this month.

UEFA chief executive Gerhard Aigner said: “The scale of this tragedy and the pain and sorrow which it brings should cause us all to reflect. UEFA feels it is right that the European football family should respect the loss and suffering now being felt by those families who have lost their loved ones by postponing all UEFA games scheduled to be played this week.”

"In the interest of security and out of a sense of deep mourning for the national tragedy that has occurred, all Major League Baseball games on Tuesday have been cancelled," said Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig (pictured). "I will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and make ongoing decisions accordingly. "
The NFL said it would consider what steps it would take over its weekend games ‘within the next 48 hours’.
Golf’s Ryder Cup, staged between the US and Europe is set to take place later this month in England – fears are now mounting it may be postponed in the light of yesterday’s tragic events.
The PGA Tour has postponed this week's tournaments for 24 hours because of Tuesday's terror attacks in New York and Washington. Three events - the American Express Championship in St Louis, the Tampa Bay Classic in Florida, and the Buy.com Oregon Classic - were due to start on Thursday.
They have all been rescheduled to begin on Friday, although this could change depending on further developments.
