FIFA to sign Kirch rights deal this week

Tagged in &

Soccer's world governing body FIFA said on Monday it expects to sign a deal giving 2002 World Cup television rights previously held by ISMM/ISL, the collapsed Swiss sports marketer, to German media group Kirch this week.

We expect to sign this contract this week, probably on Wednesday," a FIFA spokesman stated.
Originally, Kirch and ISMM/ISL were to split the rights with Kirch taking television rights in Europe, and ISMM/ISL the rights to the rest of the world.
Kirch exercised its option to take up the rights following the collapse of ISMM/ISL, the spokesman said, adding FIFA lawyers didn't anticipate any problems with the rights' transfer.
As of early July, Ernst and Young, administrators for ISMM/ISL, had not decided whether commercial and media rights held by ISMM/ISL would revert back to FIFA.
No one was immediately available for comment at Ernst and Young.
