According to UK news sources, Canal Plus, Vivendi's pay-TV unit and United Pan-Europe Communications (UPC), the Dutch cable operators, plan to integrate their Polish satellite television platforms.
Canal Plus will hold 75 percent of the merged platform and UPC the remaining 25 percent, said a source quoted in the Financial Times newspaper.
However, a Canal Plus Polska spokesperson told sportbusiness.com that nothing has been confirmed and the two sides are still in talks.
Canal Plus has been present in Poland since 1995, and last year extended its relationship with the Polish domestic football league, by signing a five year deal giving the satellite broadcaster exclusive live rights to top club soccer, the spokesperson said.
Canal Plus also holds rights to the Polish national team's home World Cup qualifiers and Italian, French, English and Spanish league football.
Canal Plus also owns rights to the Speedway Grand Prix Championship, an important sport in the Polish market, and Golden League athletics and major boxing events.
UPC holds the rights to Polish World Cup qualifiers abroad and Scottish and Portuguese top flight football.
Canal Plus and UPC's Polish satellite platforms both have about 350,000 subscribers
Satellite TV interests in Poland are expected to merge in order to accelerate profitability in eastern Europe's strongest television market.
