After the country's disastrous recent World Championships in Fukuoka where Brazilian swimmers were absent from the podium, the federation (CBDA) president, Coaracy Nunes, is to ask sports minister Carlos Melles for funding.
Nunes is looking for financial backing for the Olympic talent project which will select 20 of the country's most promising swimmers to prepare for the Greek Games. "The future of swimming depends on this. We need resources for medals," said Nunes.
Under the project, swimmers will receive free medical and psychological help, international travel, attend training camps and receive biomechanical analysis.
Brazilian swimming is to demand money from the government to prepare for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
