CBS Sports has signed a three-year deal with Championship Auto Racing Team (CART) to televise a portion of the Champ car schedule.

CBS confirmed to press agencies that the network aims to cover seven races per year for the next three years, schedule permitting
CART, in the final year of contracts with ABC Sports and ESPN, is expected to place the rest of its 22-race schedule for 2002 and beyond with Fox, which would spread the races over its Speedvision, FX and Fox Sports Net outlets.
ESPN and ABC have now withdrawn from negotiations to cover the race series, and will put their resources behind the rival IRL series, which includes the Indianapolis 500, still the biggest race in the open-wheel division.
