A panel voted 9-0 in favour of a 25-year Sports Stadium lease for the baseball franchise that currently plays as the Calgary Cannons.
The franchise will succeed the Dukes franchise in Albuquerque, which was previously sold and moved to Portland.
A major renovation of the Sports Stadium is scheduled to begin later this year to be concluded in time for the new franchise to begin play.
A lease needed to bring minor-league baseball back to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the 2003 season has been approved by the City Council.
