Commenting on the initiative, Soccer Australia chairman Ian Knop stated: “The Board considers it important that our television broadcast partner has the opportunity to assist the Board in the area of television and broadcast media.”
Said Wood: “This appointment is a positive step for both parties. Clearly an effective working relationship is important to the success and growth of the code.”
Seven Network will have an observer status only on the Soccer Australia Board.
Soccer Australia has forged ahead with its decision to give its primary broadcaster the Seven Network a larger role in the running of the sport by announcing the appointment of senior executive Shane Wood to the Soccer Australia Board.
