2009 has been a breakthrough year for the Belarusian professional tennis player. Azarenka won her first Tour singles title at Brisbane in January, swiftly following up with her second in February at Memphis, where she also won her second Tour doubles (with Wozniacki). She then won her third and by far biggest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title at the Sony Ericsson Open.
Azarenka reached the SF at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells this year and also won her third Tour doubles title at Indian Wells. These impressive results have seen her crack the world’s Top 10 for the first time.
Junior highlights include Grand Slam singles titles at the 2005 Australian Open and the 2005 US Open and Grand Slam doubles titles at Wimbledon 2004 and 2005 and at Roland Garros 2005.
Born in Minsk, Azarenka spends most of her time living and training in Scottsdale.
