Weighlifting chief quits to join USOC

The USA Weightlifting Board of Directors announced on Tuesday that CEO Rick Adams has accepted a position with the U.S. Olympic Committee as the Director of NGB Organizational Development.

During his time with USA Weightlifting, Adams led the organization through a transformation during which time he increased membership, established several grassroots programs and generated new sponsorship revenue.  Adams also spearheaded other projects, including a code of conduct, a new background screening policy and worked with the USOC to secure additional high performance funding for USAW.  Adams visited many USA Weightlifting clubs and events to reach out to the membership; assisted in the recruitment of a new world class coach; and reinvigorated the training environment at the Olympic Training Center.  In addition, Adams also reorganized USAW's operations and established an increased level of efficiency in the National Office.

“The Board of Directors regrets our loss but congratulates Rick and wishes him all the best in his new role,” said USA Weightlifting Chairman Mark Cameron.  “The USAW will be one of Rick’s clients in his new position, so his positive influence will still be felt by our organization.  In the upcoming weeks he will be working closely with the board of directors and search committee to define and locate a successor.”

Adams will assume his new position at the USOC in mid-October following a transition period with USA Weightlifting.

“I want to thank everyone involved with USA Weightlifting for the tremendous opportunity to work in this great sport,” Adams said.  “I will always be grateful to the members, athletes, partners and the USAW board for the chance to be a part of this community. I look forward to working with USAW in my new role for many years to come.”
