Hugh Robertson MP, Minister for Sport and the Olympics, has appointed six new people to the board of Sport England for two year terms - with immediate effect.
The appointments will strengthen the board and help Sport England deliver its strategy to get more people playing and enjoying sport – and helping those with talent fulfil their sporting potential.
The appointees are:
* Nick Bitel – Chief Executive of the London Marathon
* Clare Connor OBE – former England women’s cricket captain and now the England and Wales Cricket Board’s Head of Women’s Cricket
* Hanif Malik – Chief Executive of the Hamara Healthy Living Centre, the largest ethnic minority organisation in the voluntary and community sector in Leeds
* Peter Rowley – Former Chief Executive of Darlington Building Society and long term grassroots sport supporter and advocate
* Sadie Mason – Chief Executive of Active Sussex (Sussex’s county sports partnership) with a career in financial services and former England and GB basketball player
* Peter Stybelski – Former Chief Executive of Cumbria County Council with long career in local government, sport and leisure.
Hugh Robertson MP, Minister for Sport and the Olympics, said:
“These six new appointments bring an excellent mix of skills and experience to Sport England, from sport and local government, to business and social enterprise. I believe their insight and experience will prove invaluable as together we work to capitalise on the inspirational power of the Olympics to increase participation in sport.”
The appointments strengthen Sport England’s existing board of seven members, including the Chair, Richard Lewis.
Welcoming the appointments, Richard Lewis said:
“Strengthening Sport England’s board is a priority for me so I’m delighted to welcome such able colleagues onto the board. Their skills and experience are what we need to deliver our strategy now - in the same way that they will be needed by the non-exec arm of the merged organisation - to make sure we achieve excellence in sport at every level.”
