With the diversification and intensification of sport activities and participation of the Qatar National Teams in international, regional, and continental competitions in the mid 1970's, the need for the establishment of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) was imminent. It was consequently founded on 14 March 1979, and joined the International, Continental and Regional Committees as follows:

1980: International Olympic Committee.
*
1981: Olympic Council of Asia.
*
1982: Arab Sports Games Federation.
The first (QOC) Board of Directors were formed as follows:

Since its establishment, the QOC was successively led by five Presidents as follows:

Participation
The participation of Qatar in the Olympic Games as well as in the Asian and Arab Games is shown hereunder.
Olympic Games
Qatar started its participation in the Olympic Games in 1976. The first presence for Qatar was in the 21st Olympic Games, held in Montreal - Canada; where Qatar was represented by an administrative delegation. So far, Qatar have won two medals in the Olympic Games.
