Nike is the world's biggest athletic apparel firm in the world manufacturing equipment, footwear and clothing, partnered with an aggressive marketing campaign which has made it, and its trademark 'Swoosh' symbol one of the world's most instantly recognisable brands.
As of 2008, it employed some 30,000 people worldwide with revenue in excess of $18.6bn. Through its suppliers, shippers, retailers and other service providers, it claims to directly, or indirectly, employ nearly one million people.

Its world headquarters is located near Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. So while the Pacific Northwest is the birthplace to Nike, today it operates in more than 160 countries around the globe.
