North One Sport is a UK based company that holds the commercial rights to the World Rally Championship as the events first ever global promoter. They are part of North One Television, one of Europe’s biggest and most successful independent media companies. In addition to the WRC, North One Sport also represent the broadcasting rights for a number of other sports properties including the Isle of Man TT, Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, Velux Five Oceans Race and the World Freerunning Championships.
 
The WRC is sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) and has a 30 year history. The championship is contested by 5 manufacturing teams across 13 rallies. WRC is aired on 264 broadcast channels in over 120 countries worldwide with a cumulative audience in excess of 600 million. North One sport have invested heavily in WRC, identifying a number of solutions to re-direct the sport in the future, making it more appealing to manufacturers, broadcasters, sponsors and fans of the sport. Significant investment has been made in new technology to enhance the fan experience and appeal of the sport and the business has continued to make excellent progress in the way the sport is packaged and communicated to reach out to an increasingly global community of fans.
 
There remain a number of opportunities to re-position the sport and bring a new look and feel to the product, creating further content and linking TV to online and interactive platforms. Looking forward, North One Sport will be focusing its media and marketing efforts on showcasing WRC to a more global audience whilst also providing a richer breadth of content across all media.
 
This is a hugely exciting time for the WRC and North One Sport with significant future potential for the sport. A new Media Director has just recently been hired and the addition of a Media Manager illustrates the commitment and ambition of the North One Sport business to take WRC through the next stage in its development.
 
The Role
 

  • The Media Manager will report to the Media Director and manage day-to-day relationships with broadcasters, media outlets and 3rd party agents in order to deliver on existing agreements whilst also identifying opportunities for further growth.
  • Liaise with host broadcasters prior to each World Rally Championship event to ensure a good working relationship on site and make sure North One Sport is aware of the local coverage being produced by the host broadcaster. Additional responsibility will be given to oversee the co-ordination of certain international World Rally Championship programmes including overseeing booking of satellite space and distributing details to broadcasters.
  • Manage relationship with Kantar Media for TV statistics and oversee North One Sport’s sales database, sales forecast figures and contract status. Input to finance department in general planning and business review as well as sales reporting.

The Individual
 

  • A detailed understanding and experience of media sales from within the sports or entertainment industry. This should include an excellent insight into general broadcast and production operations.
  • A self-sufficient and self-motivated attitude to work autonomously in the UK reporting into the Media Director, based in the US. The Media Manager must have a level of maturity to deliver with minimum management from above.
  • Exposure to legal contracts and financial reports as well as an appreciation of market research and the impact this has on broadcast sales.
  • A genuine interest in sports and sports media and a willingness to travel internationally.
