Plushenko celebrates comeback with sixth European title

On 22 January, Yevgeni Plushenko clinched his sixth European title in the Men’s Singles event at the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn. The Russian, who was making his comeback after a four-year hiatus, is only the fourth skater to achieve this feat

  • Plushenko joins Ulrich Salchow (9 titles), Karl Schäfer (8) and Willy Böckl (6) as the only skaters to win the Men’s Singles event at least six times.
  • The last skater to do this was Schäfer in the 1930s.
  • Plushenko has now finished on the podium nine times in this tournament. Only Salchow (10) and Schäfer (10) won more medals in this event.
  • Defending champion Brian Joubert won bronze, recording his ninth consecutive podium finish in this event. Only Schäfer earned more consecutive medals (10).
