The 2007-08 season was excellent for Manchester United as it saw the club crowned both English and European champions. According to research from Deloitte, this success was translated into financial gain as the club recorded increases across all revenue streams of 21 per cent, rising £45 million to £257.1 million.
Broadcasting revenues increased 44 per cent to £91.6 million, £49.3 million of which was generated from the club’s share of the Premier League’s broadcasting deals commencing in 2007-08. United’s payments from the League were up 54 per cent on the previous year.
Commercial revenues increased 14 per cent to £64 million, with the club’s Nike sponsorship delivering improved returns following a new kit launch during the season. United’s £14.1 million a season shirt-sponsorship deal with AIG continues until 2009-10 despite the bank being bailed out by the US Federal Reserve in September 2008.
