BSkyB on track for 10m by 2010

BSkyB added 56,000 new customers in the third quarter to March 2008 to take its customer base to 8.9 million - keeping it on track to hit 10 million subscribers by 2010. The digital pay-television provider is almost certain to pass the nine million mark in 2008, although market eyes will be trained on the group's resilience to any worsening in consumer confidence. Rivals Setanta Sport, currently on around 3 million subscribers, need not despair at Sky’s figures. Sky’s subscriber levels could be good for uptake of Setanta’s channels, which can be found on the Sky Digital platform, and the upward trend also suggests that pay-TV subscription is now a fact of life for most British consumers.
