Some of the world’s biggest events, leading brand names and most acclaimed agencies and individuals are featured in the short list for the 2009 SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards, announced today.
The Awards will be presented at a Black Tie Ceremony at Lords Cricket Ground, London on November 10, 2009.
Among the major events featured in the short list are the Indian Premier League, the WTA Tour Championships, ICC World Twenty20, The Wimbledon Championships and the FIFA Confederations Cup.
IPL supremo Lalit Modi, IOC head of events Gilbert Felli and veteran sports marketing guru Patrick Nally are among the individuals in the running for the Outstanding Contribution Award, won last year by Bernie Ecclestone.
But the breadth and creativity within the events sector is also highlighted by the inclusion on the short list of entries including the BUPA Great North Run, the 17th Golden Oldies Rugby festival and the GAA All Ireland Quarter Finals.
Over 150 entries were received for the third edition of the fast-growing awards programme and a panel of distinguished international judges, including newly-elected IOC Executive Committee member Sir Craig Reedie, will shortly begin their deliberations.
